The counter-terror agencies have conveyed to the UPA government that BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is under serious security threat from pro-Khalistani terrorist groups and Indian Mujahideen jihadists in the run-up to 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Modi has decided not to attend the December 8 Mega rally in Punjab on chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s birthday apparently due to a clash with the forthcoming state assembly election results on that day.

Government sources said while Intelligence Bureau (IB) has been issuing security alerts on Modi since 2003-2004 for his alleged role in 2002 Gujarat riots, the last alert on November 1 was issued by multi-agency centre (MAC) after cross-border intercepts indicated that Gujarat CM could be targeted by Pakistan’s ISI-handled Khalistani terrorists groups. The alert was issued after the daily internal security meeting chaired by Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde.

Modi’s protégé Amit Shah has also been given Z category security by Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh governments as the former state home minister is on the radar of IM jihadists for his alleged role in police encounters in the past decade.

The ISI through terrorists group like Babbar Khalsa International (Wadhawa Singh), Khalistan Zindabad Force (Ranjit Singh Nita), Khalistan Tiger Force (Jagtar Singh Tara) and Khalistan Liberation Force (Harminder Singh Minto) have been trying to target Modi. Of these terrorists, Tara and Minto are active while Nita is under medical treatment in Pakistan after suffering two heart attacks recently.

Arrested IM co-founder Yasin Bhatkal used to motive youth into jihad in Dharbanga in Bihar in 2009-2010.
