Citing a notification issued by the government's relief and rehabilitation department on Monday which mentions payment of ex-gratia to the victims of police firing, AGP spokesman Apurba Bhattacharjee said this was violation of election code of conduct.

The AGP would take up this matter with the state election department.

Bhattacharjee said the government had no power to issue such a notification and it was liable to attract action against it.
