Deuti Roy, was travelling with the PSO Sanatan Das at Baithamari near Abhayapuri when the PSO allegedly opened fire on her, the sources said.
Deuti was fatally injured and declared brought dead in the Bongaigaon civil hospital.
After firing on Deuti, Das had allegedly fired at himself and was in a critical condition in the hospital, they said.
In a suicide note that was recovered from the vehicle, Deuti wrote to her husband to take care of their two children.
The police suspected that the PSO had an illicit relationship with the wife of the MLA, representing North Abhayapuri constituency.
Further investigation is on, they added.
