YET ANOTHER project on development of agro-forestry models for Eastern UP has been prepared by Allahabad-based Centre for Social Forestry and Eco-Rehabilitation and has been submitted to the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) for the approval.

Under this project the Centre plans to develop specific models of agro-forestry for the farmers who are already involved in it or wish to adopt this kind of forestry.
If the project gets green signal from the ICFRE, the Centre will make all efforts to make the farmers aware of the fact that with the adoption of agro-forestry they will be economically benefited and their routine agriculture work will also not be disturbed, said Conservator of Forest and head of the Centre AK Pandey.
"We will create awareness among the farmers that if they adopt agro-forestry and plant multi-purpose tree variety including teak, shesham and eucalyptus which are commonly found in the area, the farmers are certainly going to be benefited", claimed Pandey.
He said, since the project is in-house, the resources will be arranged as per requirement and the budget to be sanctioned will be decided at the directorate level.

Under the initiative, the Centre will make a study that whether it is practically feasible to plant such tall saplings and what will be its effect on the survival, height and development of the plants.
Pandey said that farmers of the area will also be made aware of the findings of the study. "If the project gets approval, the work will start within a couple of months", he said.
