Ailing Air India is undergoing a thorough revamp of its senior management, with executive director GD Brara being recommended by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) for the crucial post of director (commercial).

Ailing Air India is undergoing a thorough revamp of its senior management, with executive director GD Brara being recommended by Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) for the crucial post of director (commercial).

Brara was selected by PESB last week when the government selection body also recommended S Venkat, another executive director in Air India, for being upgraded to the post of director(finance) in the airline's Board.

These appointments would have to be formally approved by the government, official sources said.

The PESB, which interviewed three Air India EDs, Vineeta Bhandari, R Harihar and Deepa Mahajan, for the director'S (personnel) post, has decided to interview more candidates.

The ailing national carrier's management has been undergoing a thorough overhaul with the government last month replacing Arvind Jadhav as CMD by appointing Rohit Nandan, joint secretary in the civil aviation ministry, in his place.

Speculation is also rife about revamping of the corporate communication office, but no decision has yet been taken.

Civil aviation minister Vayalar Ravi had last month spoken of a revamp in Air India management to give the ailing airline's restructuring plan a push.

Nandan last week gave the charge of executive director (customer services) to Anup Srivastava and changed another ED Deepak Barara's portfolio to make him the executive director (headquarters). He had earlier removed two OSDs, both senior pilots, from their positions in the CMD's office.
