AIDWA took out a rally and held a meeting here today to oppose Hindutva forces engaged in a disinformation campaign against Karat.

AIDWA State unit president Madhu Garg said Karat had raised issues of violation of labeling and labour laws against the Divya Yog Pharmacy of Ramdev. She said, “The law of the land did not discriminate between a criminal and a sadhu so action should be taken against Ramdev for violating legal provisions.”

AIDWA leader Vandana Roy said the issue raised was not about the usefulness of yoga or Ayurveda but of the malpractices at Ramdev’s pharmacy. She said rightwing forces and Ramdev himself was trying to confuse people to divert attention from the serious issues of labour exploitation, adulterating medicine and labeling discrepancies at the yoga guru’s pharmacy.

Nirmala Pradhan said Karat and the Left parties were at the forefront of protests against multinational companies. Ramdev was trying to politicize the issue by accusing Karat of working at the behest of MNCs. She said yoga and Ayurveda were not anyone’s personal property and Ramdev was trying to fool the people as investigation by a Central agency had proved that medicines were adulterated. She warned Ramdev and Hindu organizations against politicking on religion, culture and tradition.
