Bleeding national carrier Air India (AI) has issued notices to eight senior Boeing 787 Dreamliner commanders after an international flight was delayed on July 29 for want of a captain.

Sources said the notices were issued after the July 29 Delhi-Hong Kong flight was delayed by over two hours as the airline scrambled to arrange for a captain.

“A number of captains were contacted to operate the flight but most expressed their inability on one pretext or the other,” said a source.

“Eight senior commanders, many of whom are trainers and examiners of the rank of general manager and deputy GMs, have been issued notices and asked to explain the reasons for their inability to operate the flight,” said an AI official.

“We don’t comment on internal issues,” said an AI spokesperson.
