Kingfisher and Jet had yesterday announced their decision to hike fares after state-run oil companies increased Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices by 2.8 per cent on the back of a surge in international oil prices.

"We have taken a decision to hike our air fares," a senior Air India official told PTI in Mumbai on Friday.

He said the quantum of the hike "will be announced shortly."

Jet Airways, Kingfisher and Deccan's fare-increases come into effect from Friday.

While Kingfisher Airlines and Deccan hiked base fares by 10 per cent across the board, Jet Airways effected a 10 per cent increase in its economy class fares and a five per cent increase in its business-class fares on domestic routes.

Other airlines such as IndiGo, GoAir and SpiceJet have so far spared their passengers from a similar hike.
