Aircraft manufacturer Airbus' latest Global Market Forecast has said India would average an annual passenger growth of 7.7 per cent until the year 2025 against a world average of 4.8 per cent.
The forecast released to reporters at its Hamburg facility said the rise in passenger traffic in India would translate into a demand for about 1,000 aircraft from Indian carriers worth US$ 105 billion over the same period.
Out of these, Indian carriers would need about 40 very large aircraft like A 380, it added.
The company which has a huge establishment in Hamburg, said it today had a market share of about 70 per cent of all commercial aircraft with an approximate delivery of one aircraft per week to an India-based carrier.
The best year for orders placed by Indian carriers was 2005, when Airbus recorded 229 orders.
The company has not indicated about the current downturn being witnessed by the Indian aviation industry and whether it has impacted its order-book or led to any cancellations.
The aircraft major said the "last few years have seen a booming aviation sector and there is still some way to go before passenger air travel in India reaches the levels seen in mature aviation markets like the US, Australia and Europe."
