According to CISF sources, action was taken against a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector, who were on duty at the airport on the day when the incident happened, following an internal probe by the CISF, in charge of airport security across the country.

Within a week after the incident, police had arrested Rajasekharan Nair, a former CISF guard, who had confessed to having placed the explosive material, used for firecrackers, in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

Nair, who was working for a private firm to which the ground handling jobs were outsourced, had claimed that he did smuggled in and kept the material in the aircraft to demonstrate security lapses in the airport.

According to CISF sources, the two suspended personnel used hand-held metal detectors to check cleaners and cargo handlers on the day.

Meanwhile, the police team handling the case had sought the permission of the local court for subjecting Nair to polygraph test. The court would be considering the plea on April 16.
