Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhury said the decision to disband the state unit and 15 frontal organisations had been taken after national president Mulayam Singh Yadav's nod. Akhilesh would, however, continue as the head of the state unit.

The party, which is in a state of shock after unprecedented electoral drubbing, had earlier sacked 36 leaders of the status of the ministers of state in various governmental organisations.

The decision to dissolve state unit and other bodies had been taken after three days of extensive review of the poll results in which the party could win just five seats.

Since the process of review was still underway, possibility of axe falling on more leaders, including ministers, could not be ruled out. Six ministers, who had contested the Lok Sabha election, performed badly, earning Mulayam's wrath.
