The DIG (Railways) Ajay Verma said the railways have stepped up security in every Assam-bound train either originating from Bihar or passing through the state.

Verma, who held a high-level meeting with railway security officials at Patna junction last evening, today said a comprehensive plan was chalked out to provide security to passengers on the running trains.

The district magistrates and superintendents of police were asked to provide additional security in trains going to or coming from Assam and passing through Bihar to prevent any retaliatory attack, official sources said.

Special reinforcements were being provided at each major station in the state to check any incident in retaliation to the attacks on people of Bihar origin in Assam.

The state police headquarters would be providing 100 policemen each in Patna and Katihar region to keep a close vigil on trains.

A few years ago, similar killing of Bihar origin migrants in Assam had sparked retaliatory violence in trains in the state.
