India is closely monitoring developments in Thailand in the wake of a military coup in which army wrested power from Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, a senior official said.

"The situation is being monitored closely and we are in touch with our Embassy in Bangkok," an MEA official said in New Delhi.

The official also denied reports in a section of media that some Indians had been affected due to the coup.
"All Indians are safe there," the official said.
Thailand Army Commander-in-Chief General Sondhi Boonyaratkalin has wrested power from Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and declared martial law in the country on Tuesday.
