Bangalore opted to bat first after winning the toss. Accurate bowling by Abhishek Gaur and Sumit Chandra did not allow the batsmen to score runs comfortably. The visiting southern team, comprising of former international Test cricketer David Johnson, failed to impress the local gathering. After losing the opening pair for 40 runs, Avinash played responsibly.

His partnership with Manjunath provided some relief to the team. Avinash scored an invaluable 53 runs and Manjunath made 24 runs. Their departure was the beginning of the end for Bangalore. The remaining seven wickets were down after adding mere 50 runs. Bangalore scored 147 runs in the stipulated 35 overs that included 17 extras.

Sumit Chandra took four wickets after conceding 16 runs in four overs. Chasing the target, Allahabad lost its openers at the score of 34 runs. Balram Singh and Javed challenged the bowlers by playing sensibly. However, Girish took the crucial wicket of Balram, who fell short by two runs from his half century. Javed scored 37 runs. Allahabad won the match by five wickets.

Chief guests of the man of the match prize presentation ceremony, former Test cricket David Johnson and Bhopal Divisional Cricket Association (BDCA) vice-president Aruneshwar Singhdeo presented the ‘HT Man of the Match’ trophy to Sumit Chandra. Suhsil Singh, Mohan Chaturvedi and others were also present on the occasion.
