Marking for the Allahabad University's first ever national-level Under-Graduate Admission Test (UGAT) — for bagging 12,484 seats of under-graduate courses of the varsity and eight of its 10 constituent degree colleges — would be done as per the deductible (negative) evaluation system. The admission test is scheduled to be held simultaneously at Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Delhi and Guwahati on June 1 and June 2.
For every correct answer, 2 marks will be awarded to a student but for every wrong answer he would end up losing 2/3 marks. Information brochure of UGAT makes it clear that during the two hour admission test, every candidate will have to answer 150 questions of multiple choice types.
"For BA Admission test, the student will have to opt either English or Hindi (Language and Literature) and answer 25 questions framed to assess the applicant's understanding of literature, language, vocabulary, grammar and unseen passage among other things," informed member of UGAT-2007 core committee Prof NR Farooqui.
He said that the candidates would also have to answer 25 questions each of general awareness and general mental aptitude besides 75 questions aimed to test his subject knowledge.
"For general awareness section, there is no fixed syllabus. Questions pertaining to events affecting social, economic and political development will be asked. The questions will be of intermediate level. For general mental ability test, questions related to logic and analytical faculty, assessment of inter-relationships and other related mental exercises will be asked," he added.

{{/usCountry}}Prof Farooqui said that in the knowledge test section, out of civics, economics, geography, history, logic, Sanskrit and Urdu, a student would have to opt any three subjects and answer 25 questions of intermediate level.
As for students seeking admission in BSc (Biology), BSc (Mathematics), BSc (Applied science) and BSc (Home science), the candidates would have to answer 20 questions of either General English or General Hindi aiming to test their vocabulary, spelling and grammar skills.
The students would also have to answer 10 questions of general awareness and 120 questions of science (intermediate level) with students wanting admission to BSc (Applied science) and BSc (Home science) having the option to choose any three subjects out of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
"There will be 40 questions in each of the four subjects. Candidates of Maths stream having to select 120 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and that of Biology stream having to select 120 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology," said Prof Farooqui.
Similarly, for students wishing admissions in BCom, candidates will have to answer 20 questions from General English or General Hindi aiming to test their vocabulary, spelling and grammar, 10 questions of general awareness aiming to test their knowledge of events affecting social, economic and political developments of intermediate standard.
"Under commerce (intermediate level) section, candidates would have to answer 120 questions with 40 questions of Accountancy, 20 questions each of Business method, currency and banking, 10 questions on economics and five questions each on Insurance and management," he added.
