Johnson became the greatest hurdler in World Championships history on August 30, 2003 in Paris, leading Team USA to a 1-2-4-5 finish in the 110-metre hurdles at the 2003 IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The four time World champion lost out on a medal four years ago at Sydney suffering from untimely injuries in 2000 and early in 2001. But he came back to remind the world that he is the top 110m hurdler, winning the 2001 World Championships and Goodwill Games. He followed up in 2002 with US titles indoors and outdoors. He started 2003 with a bang, winning the World and US indoor titles.
He is bidding to win the Olympic crown eight years apart but before that he has to beat his compatriots, Terence Trammel and Duane Ross, who beat him in the US Olympic Trials.
If Johnson wins in Athens, he will join Michael Johnson (400m) and Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie (10,000m) as the only four-time world champions and two-time Olympic gold medallists in an individual track event. Though most of his career overshadowed by the greats like Michael Johnson he now bidding to get out of the shadows and join them in them in the ranks of legends.
