A day after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar resigned from the Maharashtra government over corruption charges, inviting similar offers from other party ministers, the BJP Wednesday said it was indicative of the allies abandoning a sinking UPA ship.
"The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is a sinking ship due to misgovernance and corruption charges against it. The allies are looking for avenues to leave the alliance," BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here. The party is holding its national executive meet in this tourist complex on the outskirts of the national capital.
The Congress-NCP coalition government in Maharashtra is headed by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Recently another UPA ally, the Trinamool Congress, quit the UPA over economic reforms.
