A woman, reportedly in her early 30s, started her journey from Bijnore in Western UP to her house in Defence Colony in a Maruti-Zen car. On reaching NH-58, on the outskirts of Ghaziabad district, she reportedly developed labour-pains and delivered inside her car. Unfortunately, in the absence of any medical help, both the mother and her new-born child died inside the car.

The incident happened Wednesday forenoon between Mohiuddinpur police-post (PS Partapur, Meerut) and Kadrabad police-post (PS Modinagar, Ghaziabad) which are within one kilometre distance of each other.

Police officials, who received information from locals, have started enquiry into the incident and are still clueless about the reason that prompted the woman to drive alone to a distance of over 150 kms to Delhi.

A source who did not want to be identified for fear of reprisal and reached the spot near Shatabdi Public School on NH-58 at around 11:30 AM, said the family members of the woman arrived from Noida. He said the name of the woman was Sangeeta Goel.

“The family were all in tears and within minutes took the dead bodies to Noida without informing the incident to the police. The infant's body was lying near the accelerator inside the car," the source said.

Kadrabad police-post in-charge Sub-Inspector Rajbir Singh said the police did not receive any information about the incident from family members.

"We were informed by locals about the incident. The family members did not inform us nor they have given any complaint in this regard," Singh said. However, he said, timely help could have saved both the lives.

SSP Akhil Kumar said initially the incident does not hint at criminal involvement.

“But we will ensure family members are traced and an enquiry is done regarding the incident. We are trying to locate the family who carried the bodies without informing police.”
