The annual Amarnath yatra, slated to start from June 7, has been rescheduled to and will now start from June 15.

The yatra was postponed due to accumulation of snow at various places en route to the 3,880 metre-high cave shrine.

The decision to defer the yatra was taken by the Governor N.N. Vohra who is the chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) after making an aerial survey on Sunday, a spokesman of the board said.
Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti (SAYSS), which spearheaded last year's agitation, will send one of its representative to personally verify claims of Government.
