The city’s first ever helipad atop a residential building, the 19th storey home of the Ambani family at Sea Wind in Cuffe Parade has run into heavy weather yet again. The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), which had earlier granted an approval to the project has now stayed it.
In its letter dated June 5 to the director of M/s Ruchi Properties Private Limited, carrying out work here, it has said: As per CRZ notification 1991, development of helipads in such coastal regulation zone area other than Lakshadweep and Andaman is not permissible.
The letter states that the firm in its letter for permission had not mentioned the applicability of CRZ. Just two weeks back, the civic body had slapped a fine of Rs 2.43 lakh on the firm for carrying out work without getting all the approvals. The BMC had sought 13 no objection certificates issued by various agencies from the contractor before commencing the project. Now, with MoEF reversing its earlier decision, the citizens groups’ protests against the all weather helipad are likely to get stronger.
