Police have arrested a man suspected to have vandalised the statue of BR Ambedkar in Kanpur.

A resident of Sarojini Nagar, Arun Valmiki, has allegedly confessed to have damaged the Ambedkar statue in Kakadeo area along with two of his associates.

Curfew lifted in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Curfew in Pimpri-Chinchwad in Pune district was lifted on Friday as normalcy returned to the industrial township after it witnessed violence since Wednesday.

The curfew was lifted from the areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad at 6.30 am, Additional Commissioner of Police Rajendra Singh told. Though normalcy was returning to the violence-hit areas of Pimpri-Chinchwad, it was still gripped by tension, police sources said.

A municipal corporation bus was stoned at Bopadi chowk in the morning by unidentified persons, they said.

Ever since the eruption of violence in Pune, many private shops and police chowkies were pelted with stones and private vehicles and those belonging to the fire brigade and a number of municipal corporation buses were set ablaze.

The police had arrested over 150 people in connection with the violence in the past two days, according to Police Commissioner DN Jadhav.
