Tension grips Kanpur Dehat village

TENSION GRIPPED Syonda village of Kanpur Dehat under Gajner police station following desecration of Ambedkar statue on Friday.
In the aftermath of the incident, angry Dalits took to streets and shouted slogans against the administration.
This was the second incident of vandalisation of Ambedkar statue. Earlier, a statue of Ambedkar was vandalised in Ambedkar Basti under Kakadev police station.
On receiving the news, the police rushed to Syonda village and assured the crowd that the damaged statue would be replaced soon.
The police also lodged an FIR against some unidentified persons. However, no untoward incident was reported from any parts of the district.
Senior police and administrative officials were camping in the village.
Meanwhile, former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Mathura Pal, rushed to the site and staged a dharna, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in damaging the statue.
Talking to Hindustan Times, some villagers said there was a dispute on the land on which the statue was erected. The disputed land might have been the reason for vandalisation of the statue, they added.
They also said despite several objections by villagers, a former Gram Pradhan Ghaseete Lal had installed the statue on the Gram Samaj land.
