Acharya had to steady her trembling fingers and concentrate on the crying woman before her when she heard the building's watchman scream when terrorists shot him. The woman was already in labour, but her labour worsened as the terrorists rushed into the hospital.

“In about ten minutes we heard firing from the lane right behind the hospital. We informed the patients to move into the adjoining operation theatre and they locked themselves in,” she said. “One woman was in labour on the second floor so all doctors in the ward rushed there and locked ourselves in. We heard those people coming up the steps and going to the upper floor.”
