More than two years after his arrest in July 2010 in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s trusted lieutenant Amit Shah returned to his house in Ahmedabad on Friday.
The ex-minister came back after the Supreme Court (SC) confirmed the bail granted to him by the Gujarat high court.
Described in the CBI chargesheet as “the kingpin of the staged shootout case involving the murder of Sohrabuddin, wife Kauser Bi and witness Tulsiram Prajapati”, Shah was granted bail by the high court in October 2010 but was told by the SC to leave Gujarat the next day.
Shah is now likely to play a proactive role in political activities in the state where assembly polls are due in December.
“Amitbhai will have a greater say in the selection of candidates for BJP as he knows each and every assembly segment and its local socio-political equations,” a BJP MLA said.
