Amritraj, Bopanna out of Wimbledon qualifiers

Amritraj lost to Benjamin Becker while Bopanna, the highest ranked Indian on ATP, gave way to Robert Kendrick.

Rohan Bopanna and Prakash Amritraj failed to make it to the Wimbledon main draw after going down in the second round of qualifiers.

Amritraj, ranked 285th, went down 5-7, 6-7 (4) to German Benjamin Becker at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on Tuesday.

The US-based Indian had earlier beaten Massimo Dell'Acqua of Italy 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the first round.

Bopanna, the highest ranked Indian on the ATP circuit with a ranking of 252, lost to Robert Kendrick 6-4, 6-4.

The 26-year old, who squared up against world number one Roger Federer at Halle, Germany, last week, had defeated Tomas Cakl of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4 in the first round.
