Informed by the escort and pilot vehicles of the bus about the incident, police arrived immediately and used mild cane-charge to disperse the protesters, who were demanding renovation of roads in Batala Road area of the city.

Thereafter, the bus resumed its journey towards Wagah border amidst tight security.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his visit to the city on March 24 this year had flagged off the regular bus service from Amritsar to Nankana Sahib with much fanfare.

Nankana Sahib is the birthplace of first Sikh Guru Nanakdev in Pakistan.
