The recent police atrocities in Punjab mentioned in the editorial Stop police!, (June 30) is shocking. The erring policemen should be dealt with severely. In a democratic country, police atrocities can’t be tolerated and, in fact, the policemen should receive stringent punishment. It is a tragedy that the protectors of law abuse it with such free will.

No comparison

The comparison between the killing of Indira Gandhi by her guards and Rajiv Gandhi by an LTTE human bomb is pathetic. The Sikh community never sanctioned the killing of Indira Gandhi. The point about the Sikh community ‘being pardoned’ does not even arise. The LTTE leaders are maniacal killers who must be brought to book.

Poor professionalism

The report Army shortchanging women officers (June 23) is an eye-opener. It highlights the poor professionalism of the army.
