Numismatist and Academy of Indian Numismatics and Sigillography (Indore) director Dr Shashikant Bhatt said this at a ‘coin identification’ camp organised by the Institute in Mandu recently.
Dr Bhatt said that lot of knowledge about history can be gathered from the script engraved on coins. He emphasised on authenticity in coin identification.
Around 25 coin collectors and guides participated in the camp, and five participants of the ‘numismatic research training camp’ learnt coin identification here.
Two coins obtained from Malwa region were identified at the camp. The numismatists found connection of these coins with dynasties in Jaunpur and Gujarat. These coins had writing in Bajhi script, which was interpreted as the name of Lord Vishnu.
Participants of the research training were awarded with certificates at the closing ceremony of camp on the Academy campus at Indore.
