...and that mellifluous voice belongs to the city

YOU CERTAINLY cannot miss her. The synchronisation in her voice and her well-defined presence on the screen is a treat for music lovers. Very few know that Seema Mandhyan from the popular music group of '3 Sisters' actually belongs to the city of Allahabad.
Just one album old, this group of three real sisters Seema, Deipa and Chand shot to fame with their very first album 'Sunn'.
And still more plaudits were on their way when the trio appeared together in their music video 'Kaise katengi raatein'. The group is also vying for the Guinness Book of World Records as according to Seema, none of the music groups in the world comprises of three real sisters.
Seema, the vocalist in the group and the eldest of the three sisters, settled in Allahabad after her marriage to Naresh Mandhyan, owner of popular restaurant Hot Stuff. Originally, the sisters belong to Kolkata.
"All of us worked hard for three years while conceptualising the album. Efforts on lyrics were being done by Deipa and the tunes were made by Chand. The album was released in September 2005 by the joint efforts of Nisha Kreations and Universal," said Seema.
The album had three songs sung together by the trio, two solo songs by Seema, one solo by Deipa and one by Chand.
"The popularity of the album on the music charts was exhilarating. It was a dream come true for me since I was inclined towards singing since the tender age of nine years. After settling in Allahabad, I got an opportunity to learn under the tutelage of Dr Vidyadhar Mishra. His guidance in classical music enhanced the embedded talent in me," said Seema.
So much so was the popularity of the group, that Star News aired their song exclusively composed on the birthday of Amitabh Bachchan on October 11. The second video album was completed in February 2006 based on the song 'Sun mere mehboob'.
"I have given several stage performances. Appearing on 'M TV Select' was a prestigious matter. It is all the input of our hard work that we gained so much of recognition. Honestly, present time is tough for singers since everyday a new talent emerges," she remarked. "We were often asked to do remix but we stuck to our ideals and originality won at last," she said.
An ardent fan of Pancham Da, Seema gives much time to her riyaz (practice).
She considers Lata the goddess of the Indian music.
"My future plans are to diversify into playback singing. And '3 Sisters' is also working on its another album, the tunes are ready," she added with enthusiasm.
