The president of the Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP, G. Kisan Reddy, on Thursday received a threatening letter from a purported Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) operative, telling him to leave Hyderabad.
Reddy, who took up the cause of Hindu victims during the communal riots in the Muslim-majority old city of Hyderabad in April this year, received the letter in Urdu.
The letter, claiming to be from the “suicide bomber cell of LeT, Islamic Republic of Hyderabad”, charged Reddy with creating trouble during the clashes and threatened to kill Hindus if Reddy did not leave Hyderabad.
The letter also threatened to destroy the RSS office in the business district of Begum Bazar. Reddy handed the letter at the Abids police station.
The police suspect that the dispute over ownership of a big chunk of land housing a cow shelter could be a motive behind the threat. The shed was set on fire and some cows were killed during the riots.
