Chief Minister K Rosaiah, who received a copy of the resignation from the Governor's office today, immediately recommended him that the letter be accepted.

Accordingly, the Governor accepted Surekha's resignation.

Rosaiah said Surekha quit her post only due to "mental agony" and not because of any grudge against him.

Konda Surekha, who held the Women and Child Development portfolio, had resigned yesterday demanding Y S Jaganmohan Reddy be made Chief Minister, in the first signs of dissidence in Andhra Pradesh Congress.

"I want to convey to High Command the feelings of people through my resignation that Jagan Mohan Reddy should be made Chief Minister," she had said after submitting her resignation to the Governor.
