Celebrity jewellery designer Queenie Dhody is launching her new line of animal motif jewellery later this year. “The pieces include panthers, snake, owls and more have been delicately designed using Swarovski crystals,” she reveals. Mamta Malhotra, owner, Jewels Amore, has an intriguing collection of necklaces and earrings in animal motifs, fitted with semi precious stones and jewels.

Animal planet
“Butterflies, bugs and dragonflies are doing amazingly well this season. The pieces are playful and vibrant made from crystals and beads to add the punk factor,” says Reena Handa of Trendy Baubles.

While the most popular pieces at Aldo Accessories include owls, elephants, fishes and panthers, local markets such as Janpath and Sarojini Nagar stock animal motif jewellery pieces carved out of wood or stone. The dominant ones here are camel, butterflies, peacock, elephant and dolphins. Feathers are used to give them a tribal touch.

Skin is in
Apart from motifs, animal prints and skins too are hugely popular. “Leather and fish skins are a prominent feature of my collection. My collection has big pendants encrusted on scarves and feathers as well,” says Malhotra. “The pieces in our store are chunky but delicate and both sell extremely well,” says Livia Vaaz, product and marketing, Aldo India. In the local markets, leopard and zebra prints are popular.
