ANKUR ACADEMY defeated Engineers XI in the inaugural match of the All India Mayank Chaturvedi Memorial Cricket Tournament being organised at Old Campion grounds on Monday.
After winning the toss, the team of Engineers XI decided to bat first. Playing against players like Abhishek Singh, Vikrant Singh, Zaid Mohammad Khan, Engineers XI failed to cash in on the opportunity of batting first. Except Ajit and Nihal, no batsmen could bat well.
Opener Nihal gave a good start to the team but the lack of support from the other end posed problems to him. At an individual score of 27 runs, he lost his wicket against the delivery of Krishna.
Thanks to the invaluable innings played by number six batsman Ajit, the team managed to score 165 runs. His quick fire innings of 55 runs off 36 deliveries was studded with five sixes and four boundaries.
Such was the irresponsible batting from the batsmen that there were three run outs. Krisha and Vinod Halbe claimed three wickets each for the Ankur Academy.
In reply, Ankur Academy lost early an important batsman, Samay Shrivastava. But Vikrant Singh and Abhay Goswami played responsibly and took the score to 72 runs. Both scored 33 runs each. After bowling well, Vinod Halbe showed his batting skills. Halbe scored unbeaten 50 runs. With the help of his half-century and good support from Vikrant Singh and Abhay Goswami, Ankur Academy registered the six-wicket win.
