India's annual wholesale price index rose 4.29 per cent in the week ended Feb 25, lower than the previous week's 4.34 per cent, due to lower food prices, government data showed on Friday.

The rate was below a Reuters poll forecast of 4.45 per cent. The inflation rate was at 5.06 per cent during the corresponding week of the previous year.
The WPI is more closely watched than the consumer price index because it has a higher number of products in its basket and is published weekly. CPI is published monthly.
