“The President will inaugurate the fair at 11 am,” Haryana tourism minister Kiran Choudhry said on Saturday after launching a website www.haryanatourism.gov.in.

While Madhya Pradesh is the theme state at the fortnight-long event, Egypt — with its 4,000-year-old civilization — is the partner country. So you can look forward to your pick of handicrafts from the heart of India and the land of the pharoahs. Foodies can look forward to savour the traditional dishes from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana. Chinese and Continental cuisine as well as exotic dishes from Egypt complete the fare.

Children can look forward to a face-painting event and a camel safari while kite-making and kite-flying are also on the agenda. Folk dances and music will round off the day’s events.

“The idea behind organising the fair at Surajkund is to recreate a pristine rural ambience for tourists and preserving the culture, art, craft and heritage of the country,” Choudhry said.
