Nagar Shiksha Adhikari (NSA) Rajendra Singh has written a letter to the district magistrate citing the irregularities committed in serving these meals to the children.

He has expressed concern over the substandard material used by the NGO and warned the administration about the consequences of serving substandard food to the tiny tots.

Singh has also written about the deteriorating quality of the meals to Chief Development Officer and Basic Shiksha Adhikari of Kanpur.

NSA has found gross violation of the rules laid under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan by those responsible for the distribution of mid-day meals in the schools.

Singh said that the quality, quantity and condition of the meals being supplied to the schools were not being maintained as per the norms. He added that several school teachers had lodged their complaint against the poor food quality and wrong timing in the distribution of the meals. The NSA said that he had inspected the schools and found the complaints to be true.

Therefore, the schools were getting the food at different hours of the day. Some were being supplied the meal so late that it got cold by the time it was served to the children.

Moreover, there were also complaints that the roti, dal and tahri were being supplied in inadequate quantity. They were also not supplemented with enough green vegetables.

Singh said that sweet dish like kheer and sweet rice was hardly supplied as per the norm. Efforts made to contact the office of the NGO went in vain.

However, Chief Development Officer said that he was not aware of any letter written by NSA.

He added he would inquire about the alleged anomalies if the education department sent a letter concerning the complaints.
