Police had to cane-charge the unruly mob engaged in violence. But it was more a cheque of Rs 25,000 handed over by the ADM to the victim’s father that brought an end to the agitation. The agitators had demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and arrest of the erring persons named in the case.

Less than a week back, there was violent agitation sparked off by the death of another primary school student Mansi and the same amount of compensation was given by the administration to her kin.

Around 3 pm, the body of Aakash, the child who died after battling for life at the KGMU for a week, was brought to his house in Chhitwapur. A mob of local residents and activists of various political parties reached the KKC intersection on Station Road carrying the body. They kept the body on the road and restricted traffic movement.

Policemen on duty remained mute spectators to the unruly act of the mob. The agitators misbehaved with girls and women too forcing them to go away. The cops swung into action only after SP (East) Ajay Shanker Rai reached the place and ordered to cane-charge and disperse the violent mob. The blockade, however, was removed soon after the police applied force and the ADM handed over the cheque of Rs 25,000.
