"It was a small and very low intensity explosive, one without any timer. The material was found late last night from Channapatna, 70 kms from here," Director General and Inspector General of police R Sri Kumar told PTI.

It was placed in a small tin and was found by one of the locals, who informed police. A bomb squad, which was pressed into service, defused the explosive, he said.

The recovery comes after the city was rocked by nine low-intensity serial blasts on July 25. Channapatna also witnessed a similar blast a day earlier but the incident, in which no damage was caused, went largely unnoticed.

Earlier, a live bomb kept in a cement flowerpot near a shopping mall in posh Koramangla area was defused by police on July 26.

The explosive was found near a lake, he said, adding it has been sent for further testing.
