The special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Preventive) Act (TADA) court on Thursday sentenced one man to serve life term and two women to five years rigourous imprisonment for aiding and abetting prime conspirators in the 1993 serial bomb blasts.
Salim Rahim Shaikh alias Salim Chavla became the 12th convict in the case to be sentenced to life imprisonment. Shaikh had driven five convicts in a van to the Mahim fishermen colony, where the convicts had lobbed hand grenades, killing three persons and injuring six. “His sentence is lower since he himself did not commit the terrorist act. But he was fully aware that others were going to throw the bomb when they boarded the van,” said Special Judge Pramod Kode.
Shaikh was also convicted for being in possession of a pistol while driving the vehicle, for murder and attempt to murder. Shaikh, who had undergone training in Pakistan, was also involved in parking RDX-laden vehicles at the Al-Husseini building.
