The Muslim protests over the caricatures of the Prophet first printed by Jyllands-Posten in Denmark and recently reproduced in papers across Europe continue and so does the fear of violence.

A mass demonstration of 100,000 Muslims will take place in London next weekend on February 18. Extremists may hijack it causing confusion and riots, authorities fear.

The Muslim Action Committee, an umbrella group which claims to represent over a million Muslims, said it would do a much as it could to prevent the ugly, provocative scenes witnessed during demonstrations last weekend.

One protester then had carried placards issuing death threats. One was dressed in a suicide bomber's outfit.

But the group justified the holding of the rally saying Muslims needed to channel growing anger felt across Britain by the community that it was being persecuted and treated like a second-class citizen. It also promised not to let the rally be hijacked by extremists.
