It would not be wrong to say that Bihar is now as unsafe for children as Delhi is for women.

A 12-year-old boy, Mumtaj, was kidnapped from near his home in Danapur near Patna on Thursday morning.

The kidnapping comes two days after the abduction of a schoolboy, whose whereabouts are yet to be traced. The state has seen over 50 such cases in the past one-and-a-half months.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered the police to bring a stop to the spiralling crime graph in the state and show him the results without further delay.

After the kidnapping, armed criminals barged into the house of Anjani Kumar Sinha, deputy collector of Gopalgnaj district, and demanded Rs 4,00,000. They threatened to abduct his children if the demands were not met.

"The criminals forcibly entered my house, threatened, abused and assaulted me and my daughters," said Mirdula Sinha, his wife.

"I fear a threat to our lives. I cannot take the risk of leaving them alone in Patna," Anjani said.

Police sources said that they have identified the criminal gangs that could be behind the abduction and have promised to recover him soon.

Family members are yet to receive a ransom call.
