THE STATE is reeling under severe heat wave conditions with day temperatures in most parts of the State climbing beyond 43 degrees mark and touching almost 47 degrees on Saturday. The State capital touched another new high of the season recording the maximum day temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees higher than that on Friday.
The Met office said that a heat wave was prevailing over the State and would continue for the next 24 hours. The heat wave would cover almost all parts of the State except Rewa and Jabalpur divisions during the next 24 hours, while on Saturday the heat wave had enveloped the Chambal, Ujjain, Gwalior and Sagar divisions.
Sheopur Kalan recorded a scorching 46.5 degrees on Saturday, the highest recorded in the State by the Met Department, while Hoshangabad, Gwalior and Khajuraho recorded temperatures between 45 and 46 degrees.
The temperatures have risen quite sharply in the State during the last ten days and now touched almost the peak of the season.
In Capital, the average maximum temperatures remain around 43-44 degrees during the month of May, which has already been recorded right in the first week. The weather is set to get only more uncomfortable with the Met office predicting no respite from the present conditions. Some scattered clouds formed in the city skies towards Saturday evening, but could not bring much relief from the heat.
The days have got unbearably hot all across the State and power cuts and drinking water scarcity problems have started making the situation worse for the citizens. The sun spews fire all through the day making venturing out a difficult proposition. Even the nights, which are normally comfortable in parts of the State, have started getting quite stuffy and hot.
