The BSF jawans picked up 22-23 years old youth near the Akhaura border in Agartala, the route Bangladeshi Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Dipu Mani will take during her visit to the state on September 14. But the youth claimed he is a Bangladeshi and was staying in Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir where he was doing odd job to earn bread.

“He claimed he was near the border in his bid to cross over to his country prior to his arrest. Two Indian identity cards and an insurance policy certificate was recovered from his possession”, an officer in the special branch (SB) of police informed requesting his name be withheld.

The officer said suspicion rose when it was found that he was not fluent in Bangla despite claiming that he is a Bengali from Kolalipara village in Gopalganj district in Bangladesh. Moreover the investigators were unwilling to believe that a Bangladeshi was staying in India’s most sensitive and volatile state for years without detection.
