HEAD OF the Anthropology Department of Allahabad University (AU) Prof V S Sahai is in a fix over admissions. Already under pressure from the student leaders right from the start of the admissions to the post-graduate classes in the varsity, his trouble has increased, what he claims, due to fault of the Dean, Students Welfare Office.

Upset over the issue, Prof Sahai has decided to meet the Vice-Chancellor and apprise him of the situation and urge him to directly intervene in the matter.
It may be mentioned that the Anthropology Department recently completed its admission against all the 20 sanctioned seats. Now, he is being forced to admit one more student under the physically handicapped (PH) quota.
Prof Sahai said: "Admissions in the Anthropology Department have been closed after giving admissions to 19 candidates on the basis of merit and one candidate under PH quota. The candidate under PH quota too was granted admission after receiving official information from the DSW office which conducted the medical examination. Now, after the admissions are over, the DSW office has asked us to admit one more student under the PH quota as his percentage of disabledness is more than the student already admitted under the quota."
Prof Sahai said that the DSW office was conducting medical tests intermittently and sending candidates for admissions in instalments. Had the DSW department given the list of all PH candidates then nothing would have gone wrong, he claimed.

"If we grant him admission it will raise the total number of students admitted to the department from 20 to 21, and many more students might demand to increase seats for admission".
Prof Sahai said that he had decided to meet the VC to seek the solution to the
problem.
