Nearly an hour after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed cast his vote here, separatists shouted anti-election slogans, forcing the police to fire in the air and use teargas shells to disperse them.

After Sayeed, his wife and daughter Mehbooba Mufti left the polling station, nearly 150 separatists gathered outside the polling station and raised slogans, official sources said.

Police swung into action and used teargas shells and later fired in the air to disperse them and bring the situation under control for conduct of a peaceful poll, they said.

Polling at the booth continued uninterrupted despite the protests.
