A MEETING of the Central Anti-Ragging Committee, constituted by the Higher Education Department of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development according to the directives of the Supreme Court, will be held at Hotel Ashok Lake View on February 12 from 10.30 am onwards.
Members of the high-level committee including chairman and former director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) R K Raghavan will attend the meeting where suggestions will be elicited from various sections of society, mainly various persons concerned of the higher educational institutes, for effective curbing of ragging.
The other members of the committee are director of IIT, Kanpur, Prof Sanjay Dhande, dean of Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, Dr A K Agrawal, principal of Ramjas College, New Delhi Dr Rajendra Prasad, vice-chancellor of SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai, Dr Chandra Krishnamurthy, former vice-chancellor of Madras University, Chennai, Prof S Sathikh and the member secretary of committee and joint secretary of department of education Sunil Kumar.
The committee seeks to examine the broad aspects of ragging including – means and methods of prevention of ragging, possible action that can be taken against persons indulging in ragging and possible action that can be taken against college/university authorities in the event of ragging.
Representatives of universities including vice-chancellors and registrars, colleges and students’ organisations as well as principal secretaries/secretaries of various departments concerned in state government would be participating in the meeting.
