WHILE THE Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) of Indore’s protest against action on doctors in Mumbai affected services at MYH, Indore, undergraduate students of GR Medical College, Gwalior forced closure of the OPD in Madhav Dispensary.
JDA, Indore’s protest though symbolic affected services at the State’s biggest Government hospital, Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Hospital (MYH) today. Only essential, and emergency services were working and appointments for routine activities were either cancelled or rescheduled. Most operations except those necessary were cancelled.
Since both patients and hospital administration had prior information about the strike there was no panic and hospital authorities could make alternative arrangements. However, the hospital administration had not made arrangements to meet additional demands and only senior doctors along with a handful of junior doctors attended the patients.
With the flow of patients to the hospital continuing, with some camping in the hospital corridors , the tardy speed of work led to long queues outside the Out Patients Department (OPD).
In Gwalior, a large crowd of undergraduates reached the OPD in the morning and shouted anti-reservation slogans. JDA vice-president Ram Krishna said they intended to join the undergraduate students’ anti-reservation movement.

{{/usCountry}}The members of the Indian Medical Association, on the call of their apex body, are opposing the recent reservation policy by putting black ribbons on their aprons.
A rally was organised here from the Achaleshwar Temple in response to a all of the Arakshan Virodhi Morcha formed by various organisations. The protestors shouted slogans against the proposed reservation.
Prabhu Dayal Samadhiya of Sanadhya Sabha said seniors would fight for the rights of younger generation and if the time demanded they would not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for the future of the young blood.
Dr B P Purohit said, “Senior members came forward to oppose the recent proposals for reservation in various educational institutions, specially the professional institutes. Poor persons belonging to Sawarn Samaj or so-called upper castes had been ignored. On the other hand, the so-called members of creamy layer in OBCs were favoured”.
