Antique idol seized, two arrested in Delhi

The 10-inch idol is made of asthadhatu, weighs 1,250 gm and allegedly dates back to the Mughal era.

Two people were arrested for their alleged involvement in a robbery after an antique idol of lord Krishna was recovered in Delhi, police said on Saturday.

The 10-inch idol is made of asthadhatu (eight metals), weighs around 1,250 gm and allegedly dates back to the Mughal era. Its cost in the international market is over Rs.20 million, said a police official.

The central district police have arrested two people - Jawad Hassan and Prahlad Sahay - from Rajasthan and the Jama Masjid locality in old Delhi, respectively, suspecting them of involvement in the case.

"Hassan hails from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh and was settled in Jaipur for years. A unani medicine and surgery graduate from Tibia College in Jaipur, he has been practicing in Jaipur for the last 15 years," the official added.
