The local chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the district administration organised a mini-marathon to celebrated World Heart Day on Sunday.
Noted Hindi film composer and singer Anu Malik presented a brief musical programme on the occasion.
Malik, along with Vidhan Sabha speaker Kuldeep Sharma and local parliamentarian Arvind Sharma, flagged off the marathon from Sector 12 here. It culminated at Karnal Club, where Malik enthralled the audience. More than 5,000 people, including children, women, elderly, participated. Several district officials, including deputy commissioner Vikas Yadav and superintendent of police Shashank Anand, ran with the residents.
Later, Malik urged the audience, particularly youth, to exercise and follow a healthy lifestyle. "Only young and healthy people can help India grow in all spheres," he said.
Turing to social issues, he said: "We must fight against female foeticide and learn to respect women. Society that does not respect women is incomplete. We should make efforts to check the nuisance," he said.
