Yadava Manikanta was arrested by the CB-CID from the temple town of Tirupati on Monday evening and brought to Chennai. He was booked under the Information Technology Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Manikanta was accused of uploading content on at least four Tamil Facebook community pages which portrayed girl children in an obscene manner.

Some of the sites had as many as 3000 followers and were pulled down by Facebook following complaints by city-based NGOs.

While none of the pictures themselves were obscene in nature, the offence was in the comments, some of which suggested sexual violence.

The pages sparked off outrage on social media sites and worried parents petitioned the state police and Facebook.

This is not the first such instance in recent times, with popular networking sites hosting pedophilic content. Two weeks ago similar pages started in Kerala were pulled down following complaints to the state cyber cell.
